conversations online today -- ending with response to Peter Hoar's link
imho, teachers, health workers, contract workers in IT & services, artists [needless to say] are being pushed towards manual/factory working class in their roles/status in relation to new-liberal capitalist managers, ruling class & its control of public information spaces [including universities, libraries, museums] -- in NZ the class conflict is also exacerbated by colonial exploitation: the economics of usable land/sea/river/lake resources [for short term profit to pay off international debt] -- & human 'resources' [especially Maori & Pacifica] as low-paid workers -- it's going to take a serrious revitalising of the whole of the left to turn this around before it turns ugly -- for a moment it looked as if Mana might be able to do something in parliament….clearly I'm reading the situation as a liberal intellectual - but from where I sit it looks as bad for the working class as ever -- resulting in a politics of gangs & prisons child poverty & living in garages -- the South Americanization of NZ
